Sycamore stitch

I recently knit slippers for my kid with a cable from my Mon Tricot stitch dictionary, Sycamore Stitch. I’m not going to write up the pattern, but I thought I could at least chart the stitch pattern for people.

A pair of white handspun knit slippers worn by a child. They have cables up the front, and folded cuffs like a shirt collar.

Notes:

  • This is a stitch pattern from a stitch dictionary. It is not a pattern for a finished object.
  • Sycamore Stitch is a multiple of 10 stitches and 8 rows.
  • I’ve made a stitch map for Sycamore Stitch.

Abbreviations:

  • k: knit.
  • k2tog: knit 2 stitches together as if they were 1. (Right-leaning decrease)
  • p: purl.
  • k2tog tbl: knit 2 together through the back leg. In this stitch pattern, where the stitches to be knit together have already been slipped knitwise, insert the needle through both slipped stitches from right to left, and knit them together. (Left-leaning decrease)
  • p1 tbl: purl 1 through the back loop/leg to twist it.
  • SCL: using cable needle, slip each of next 2 sts knitwise and leave at front of work, p2, yo, k2tog from cable needle tbl.
  • SCR: using cable needle, slip 2 sts purlwise and leave at back of work; k2tog, yo, purl 2 sts from cable needle.
  • yo: yarnover. Bring the yarn forward between the needles so that it will make a loop over the needle when the next stitch is worked. When there are two in a row, bring the yarn forward, wrap it once around the needle, and leave the yarn in front so it makes a second loop.
