Apple Blossom and Scarab: free lace knitting stitch patterns
These came out of staring at a couple of standard stitch patterns for a while and then talking about those with friends. Mind you, these aren’t much like the ones I was staring at, so I can’t really explain how I got from point A to point B. Anyway, I like them.
(These aren’t secret code stitch patterns. It still amuses me that I get to say things like that on my blog.)
The bottom part is Apple Blossom and the top is Scarab. Scarab is really the same as Apple Blossom except for layout: it’s just offset on alternate repeats. Thanks to my Twitter friends for helping me name them.
Notes:
- This is a stitch pattern such as might be found in a stitch dictionary. It is not a pattern for a finished object. You will need to add selvedges or some other form of knitted stitches to either side.
- Both stitch patterns are a multiple of 8 + 9 stitches, if one looks at the repeat lines. Scarab is a 12 row repeat (it can also be a 12 + 6 row repeat). Apple Blossom is a 6 row repeat.
- Purl all wrong side rows.
- Designers, please feel free to use these stitches in your patterns. I’d like credit but won’t be offended if people don’t give it.
