Rolled up version 2: a free lace knitting stitch pattern
Something that I often do with my stitch patterns is to try out what they look like with the alternating repeats moved over halfway. So why not try that with the single row pattern from a couple weeks ago?
In the end, I don’t like it quite as much. One side effect is that the natural undulation of the lace is removed. I do like some things about the vertical band that is made with the waves up the middle. I am glad I tried it, though, as I learned things from it.

My first guess at how to do the chart didn’t work out as I expected, because the two sub-patterns are different widths. I haven’t yet tried knitting it, though perhaps I will at some point! I have trouble imagining that I’d like the results.
Instead, I decided that I wanted to center the subsections over each other, and so I used a slower process.

I used the wider chart with the full repeat. I copied row 1, and then carefully pasted it so that the (yo, k1, yo) would be centered over the CDD. Aha! This is starting to look like what I wanted to try. Now to put in the remainder of row 3.

I knit a rough draft swatch (not shown) and decided that I wanted to flip the decreases.

Notes:
- This is a stitch pattern such as might be found in a stitch dictionary. This is not a pattern for a finished object. You will need to add selvedges or some other form of knitted stitches to either side.
- Rolled up version 2 is a multiple of 16 + 9 stitches (wider than version 1) and 4 rows.
- I’ve made a stitch map for it.
- Designers, please feel free to use this in your patterns. I’d like credit but won’t be offended if people don’t give it.
- My blog posts and free stitch patterns are supported by subscriptions on Patreon or donations to my Paypal tip jar in the sidebar. If you appreciate my work, please consider helping out. Thanks!
