Insist: a needlework chart for any craft

Last week I didn’t put up a blog post because our central air conditioning was broken and we were dealing with that. I was getting a blog post ready for today, and then the last of a week of horrible Supreme Court rulings came out, and I just didn’t want to post a mosaic chart for the word bliss, it felt really inappropriate.

So I scrambled and found a chart I like for insist instead, to go with resist and persist. I haven’t had time to develop a lace version yet, but this seems like a good start. I’ve converted this chart into a mosaic knitting chart. (It looks very different!)

This chart is suitable for a lot of different kinds of needlework: knitting (stranded knitting, knit/purl patterns, slip stitch, and a bunch of other possibilities), filet crochet, cross stitch, and any other craft that’s worked on a grid.

  • Insist has a repeat of 8 + 1 columns and 16 or 16 + 8 rounds. (End after either round 8 or round 16.)
  • In the written instructions, color A is the light squares above, and color B is the dark.
  • The written instructions below are formatted for stranded knitting, but it is my hope that they could be translated into instructions for other crafts. For instance, if working filet crochet, 1A could be one open square and 2B could be two filled-in squares.
  • Designers, please feel free to use this in your patterns (no need to ask). I’d like credit but won’t be offended if people don’t give it.
  • My blog posts and stitch patterns are supported by subscriptions on Patreon or donations to my Paypal tip jar in the sidebar. If you appreciate my work, please consider helping out. Thanks!
